Boy, I have to be honest, this is something I could use. We tend to be slight packrats around our house. I have a partner who believes that everything can be repurposed. Admirable, and true to a certain extent, but do we really need to keep one of the kids crutches from a sprained ankle, almost 20 years ago? All right, enough of my battle here's a few tips for you -
- Give everything a place. Designate a place for things to go from the remote controls, to keys, phone chargers, school work...use bins to keep things contained.
- Create a drop zone. In most homes the kitchen & family room seem to collect everything. Have a bin or basket for items, at the end of the week, clean it out.
- Do a clutter check each week. Dedicate an hour a week to sort and organize items that are out of place. If your house is big enough, maybe give it 10-15 minutes a room. It's amazing what you can do in 10 minutes if you're serious about it.
- Rethink your purchases. If you really want to live a clutter free life you need to consciously think about want vs. need. I love this idea! Think about donating a similar item when you purchase something new.
This has motivated me. I've set some goals for myself and I'm going to work on lightening my load around home. Hope it's given you some ideas as well.
